A Life Sentence is a play written by Eleanor Byrne (my sister) telling this story, the story of our grandmother Rita McCann.

I used a portrait I shot on film of my grandmother for the imagery. The photo was taken of her proudly talking me through her verdant garden in her home in County Monaghan, Ireland.

In the moment I took this photo, Rita was thinking but I think her expression looks concerned, making it suitable for this play. The reason for the purple of the poster was that I know it to be her favourite colour.
