These are two prints I printed as presents for my parents. I chose phrases from their parents as inspiration for the prints. The sayings are: ‘hunger is the best sauce,’ and ‘you can’t burn a candle at both ends.’ For the word ‘hunger’ I decided to make the word represent its meaning so I drew letters that looked hungry. They’re thin and tall and weak looking. I used Univers Light, set in metal type beneath the word ‘hunger.’

For the second print, I simply drew a candle that was defying the saying, and burning at both ends. The type below is set in Clarendon Regular. I then float-mounted both prints so that the texture of the beautiful paper would be visible, rather than pressed against the glass.

I have a passion for working with my hands and there is nothing more satisfying than going into the Letterpress and creating something from scratch.
